CHP searching for hit-and-run driver after 2 men killed in I-80 crash – KTXL FOX 40 Sacramento

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KTXL) At least two people are dead following a crash involving multiple vehicles on Interstate 80, the California Highway Patrol confirmed.

CHP told FOX40 the crash is being investigated as a hit-and-run.

The crash happened near the I-80 Madison Avenue exit. Caltrans cameras showed traffic backing up near the scene.

Police said a green pickup going westbound ran off the roadway, crashing into another pickup and a sedan that were already disabled on the shoulder of the freeway.

Two men standing near the disabled vehicles were hit by the green pickup. One of them, age 26, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other, age 63, was taken to a nearby hospital where they later died.

The pickup then ricocheted back into traffic, striking an SUV.

Sadly, one of the patients transported by ambulance was pronounced deceased by the ER staff after arriving to the hospital. The vehicle accident is now a double fatality. Again, we mourn with the families and loved ones of those involved.

The driver of the green pickup fled the scene. He is described wearing blue jeans, no shirt and having tattoos and balding hair.

A 26-year-old passenger in the green pickup was also severely injured in the crash and was sent to a nearby hospital.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or can provide additional information is asked to call CHP Officer A.J McTaggart at 916-798-0975.
