Confronting details have been brought to light after a man and a woman were accused of sexually exploiting young women from a Brisbane home.

Matthew James Markcrow, 35, and his co-accused Crystal Marie Sawyer, 23, were arrested in dramatic fashion after a four-month-long investigation on Friday.

Police bodycam footage of the arrest showed a small bag of white powder and stacks of $50 notes being seized as Markcrow was put in handcuffs.

Officers will allege theyre the proceeds of crime after Markcrow allegedly recruited women between the ages of 17 and 24 to be involved in a sex slave ring.

He would give his victims drugs to cloud their judgement and control their living, financial and working conditions, police say.

Both he and Sawyer faced Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday.

Police Prosecutor Mark Hughes told the court that Sawyer stated she was like a mother to the other girls in the house.

When she was arrested, he said, she told the other girls not to leave the house and she would be back to look after them.

She also yelled out to Markcrow when she saw he had been arrested.

She yelled out to him Ill take care of things for you, Hughes told the court.

Sawyer is charged with three offences, including conducting a business of unlawful prostitution.

Magistrate Stephen Courtney said Sawyer was young and was granted bail on strict reporting conditions despite previous prostitution-related convictions.

The allegations against Markcrow have a particular sinister flavour, and perhaps more will be revealed as the investigation is completed. But, having said that, I need to be concerned with the charges currently against Ms Sawyer, Courtney said.

I am satisfied that risk can be significantly mitigated.

She was ordered not to contact any witnesses involved in the police case and return to court for mention on February 24.

Markcrow faces 10 charges, including conducting a business involving servitude, conducting unlawful prostitution, possessing drugs and tainted property, and breaching privacy.

He was remanded in custody on a return to prison warrant and will return to magistrates court on February 24.

He allegedly targeted victims who were vulnerable due to their age and the fact theyd had some issues within their family unit, Detective Inspector Juliet Hancock said.

Ive been a police officer for 30 years. Ive not seen this type of offending before, she said.

Its pretty hard to shock police. This is confronting.

I think a lot of people would think this is happening overseas. This has happened in Brisbane.
